LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL
OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, REGULAR MEETING, MONDAY, JANUARY 3,
2011, 5:30 PM, CITY HALL
The regular meeting of the Lowden City Council was called to order by Mayor Dan Hamdorf. Council persons present on roll call: Conrad, Olsen, Decker, Hoffmeier. Absent: Ryan. Visitors: Pat Kroemer, Gene Hamdorf, Tom Schwarz.
M/S Hoffmeier, Decker to approve the minutes of the 12-6-10 meeting. Ayes: All.
M/S Conrad, Decker to approve payment of the bills as presented. Ayes: All. Gene Hamdorf, Public Works, questioned the bill from JJJ Enterprises for $155 for hauling away snow at the Legion on 12/27/10. Council said the policy for hauling snow away at the Legion was started years ago when the Senior Citizens met at the Legion. This was a way for the City to pay back the Legion for the group’s use of their building. However, the Sr. Citizens have met at the AMVETS for many years. Some of the Council said the Legion is non-profit and they do not have a lot of money, so the City should continue to pay for the cost of hauling away snow there.
Tom Schwarz was present to request the culvert and ditch draining south on 5th St. Place be dug out to allow for proper drainage. Silt and dirt have built up over the years and could hamper water flow in that area. Council person Conrad said the City would do the digging sometime.
M/S Olsen, Hoffmeier to pass Resolution #11-01 adopting the new code of ordinances of the Lowden Municipal Code as updated by ECIA. Ayes: All.
M/S Hoffmeier, Conrad to have homeowners who have 1” water meters, as opposed to ¾” meters in the majority of homes in Lowden, pay the difference in price of the new 1” radio read meter, approx. $88. Ayes: All. The regular radio read meter cost is $185 and the 1” meter is $273.
Gene reported a resident at 705 5th Street had a frozen broken water line in their house and 42,900 gallons of water went through the meter. The bill for water and sewer could be over $400. Council told Clerk to contact the homeowner about the bill and advise them to check their insurance coverage.
City Council acknowledged JJJ Enterprises with a word of thanks for hauling away snow on Christmas Day.
Some residents will be sent letters reminding them to shovel corner crosswalk sidewalks to keep them free of snow during winter months.
A FY2012 budget meeting was set for January 24, 2011, 5:30 PM.
Next regular meeting is February 7, 2011, 5:30 PM.
M/S Decker, Olsen to adjourn at 6:00 PM. Ayes: All.
Dan Hamdorf, Mayor
