LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL
OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, REGULAR MEETING, TUESDAY, JANUARY 3,
2012, 5:30 PM, CITY HALL
The regular meeting of the Lowden City Council was called to order by newly-sworn in Mayor Barry Hoffmeier.
Mayor Hoffmeier led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council members present on roll call: Conrad, Olsen, and newly-sworn in members McCreight, Behrens, Helmold.
M/S Conrad, Olsen to approve the minutes of the 12/5/11 meeting. Ayes: All.
Mayor Hoffmeier stated, per City Attorney Sueppel’s advice, letters will be sent to Ricky Kay stating he is responsible for street damages on Jefferson Avenue which occurred on 11-15-11 by his semi trucks. Kay will be billed $11,863.50 which is the estimated amount to repair the street. An invoice also will be sent to Stephanie Howell, 802 Hall Avenue, billing her for average water/sewer usage for a 2-month period at her home when the meter had been disconnected by the resident.
M/S Conrad, McCreight to approve payment of the bills as presented. Ayes: All.

Council discussed the proposed tree ordinance. The ordinance will be placed on the February 6 meeting agenda for the first reading.
Council set Monday, January 16, 2012, 5:30 PM, for the FY2013 budget meeting.
M/S Olsen, Behrens to approve a building permit for Dan Hamdorf-garage. Ayes: All.
Kirk Steinke, Public Works, would like to build a cage for the pallet forks on the tractor which would allow the maintenance men to hang banners on street light poles, etc. Council advised him to contact the City’s insurance agent about liability/OSHA issues for this type of equipment.
Council member McCreight would like to view the CD of the sewer lines that were televised last fall. Other questions were raised about the proposed sewer plant project. Council told Kirk Steinke to contact MMS Engineers, Brian Searcy, about the sewer line CD and ask Searcy to attend the February meeting.
Galen Conrad will speak to Kevin Sander about moving a car with flat tires that has been parked on Main Street for months and not moved. Kirk Steinke will speak to the resident at 303 Main Street about a vehicle with a flat tire that hasn’t been moved for weeks. Per City Council, both vehicles are to be moved by 1/6/2012, 12:00 PM, or they will be towed.
M/S Olsen, Helmold to approve the monthly financial report. Ayes: All.
Mayor will contact Cedar County Public Health about the property at 705 Jefferson Avenue.
Mayor Hoffmeier said a consent agenda will be implemented at the February meeting. One motion can approve the minutes, bills, and financial reports.
Mayor Hoffmeier will conduct a 3-month evaluation this week for Nick Lange, Public Works.
