LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL
MINUTES
PROCEEDINGS
OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, REGULAR MEETING, MONDAY, JANUARY 5,
2009, 7:00 PM, CITY HALL
The
regular meeting of the Lowden City Council was called to order by
Mayor Dan Hamdorf. Council members present on roll call: Conrad,
Ryan, Olsen, Decker, Tucker.
Visitors: Gene Hamdorf, Pat Kroemer, Joe Goodlove, David Boettcher,
Derrick Lange.
M/S Tucker, Olsen to approve the minutes of the 12-1-08 meeting. Ayes: All.
M/S Conrad, Ryan to approve payment of the bills as presented. Ayes: All.
Derrick Lange, Lowden Fire Chief, was present and said the new fire pumper was
delivered several weeks ago. The cost of the pumper was $222,766 and the Fire
Department only had to pay $13,433 since the major portion of the cost was covered
from a grant. Gene Hamdorf asked that they not hook up to water hydrants to fill
the pump since it has the availability to pump 1500/gal. a minute and the force
could break a water main. Council said as long as there were no problems with
the mains, the firemen could hook up to the hydrants.
Joe Goodlove, representing the Lincoln Highway Association, said the Assn. is
applying for grants to get new Lincoln Hwy. banners and an information kiosk
for the Lowden City Park. The City Council said they support their efforts. Joe
also donated a security camera to the City to be used at City Hall to monitor
the City Park and street area. Council thanked the Goodloves for their generous
donation.
Council tabled the purchase of a new tractor blade for this year.
City bought a new 2002 dump truck in Dec. for $26995 from United Rentals. The
City needs a new plow for the truck. Cortez Truck Equipment offered $5500 to
buy the old 1986 dump truck and then sell the City a new 10' poly blade for the
new truck at a cost of $6721, with the difference owed to Cortez being $1221.
M/S Ryan, Olsen to sell the 1986 dump truck to Cortez Truck Equipment and buy
a new 10' poly blade for $6721 from their company. Ayes: All.
Gene Hamdorf stated his last day of work would be 12/31/11. He asked about accumulated
sick leave and wanted to know if he would be paid for the days not taken or would
lose them. Council will discuss this at the Feb. meeting.
Gene also asked the council to consider adding on to the town shed to allow for
indoor storage of lime. Council will discuss this at the budget meeting.
Mayor Hamdorf will talk to Attorney Bill Norton about clearing the west end of
the culvert on north Washington Avenue to allow for proper water drainage in
that area.
Council declined any IDOT funding at this time for replacement of the 8th Street
bridge. Clerk will send a letter to the IDOT indicating this.
The Cedar County Sheriff asked the City to consider adopting an ordinance addressing
"keeping a disorderly house" whereby they have authority to address disturbances
to the general public in neighborhoods. This will be placed on the February meeting
agenda.
Council set January 21, 2009, 6:00 PM, for the FY10 budget meeting.
M/S Decker, Ryan to adjourn at 7:58 PM. Ayes: All.
Next regular meeting is February 2, 2009, 6:00 PM.
Dan Hamdorf,
Mayor
Peggy Kedley, City Clerk
