OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, SPECIAL MEETING, MONDAY, JANUARY 16,
2012, 5:30 PM, CITY HALL
The special meeting was called to order by Mayor Barry Hoffmeier. Mayor Hoffmeier led the Pledge of Allegiance. Council members present on roll call: Conrad, McCreight, Olsen, Behrens, Helmold. Visitors: Kirk Steinke, Jan Olsen, Pat Kroemer, Aaron Horman, Laurie Millam.
Aaron Horman and Jan Olsen presented the Park budget for FY2013. Aaron asked the City to assume some of the ball diamond and building maintenance expenses rather than the money coming from the food stand account. The current Park budget with the City is $12,500. This includes utilities, insurance, salary expenses for mowing, equipment and fuel. They also suggested the shelter rental income and the expense for shelter/restroom cleaning go into the City Park budget rather than the food stand account. Council discussed whether the City maintenance men will be able to mow the Park or if the City should go out for bids for someone to do the mowing. Council decided to go out for bids for mowing the Park for the summer of 2012. The City will budget for the mowing expense with the total Park budget for expenditures increasing to $19,000.
Laurie Millam, Lowden Library, presented the FY13 library budget, $41,378, which remained the same as the previous year. She requested that if any City employees get an increase in salary, Vicki Mohr, Library director, would be included in the increase.
Lowden Fire budget will remain the same at $30,500 and Lowden Rescue budget will also be the same at $5925.
Council discussed raises for City employees.
M/S McCreight, Conrad to increase wages by 2% for City employees: Kirk Steinke- Public Works, to $15.30/hr., Nick Lange-Public Works to $14.28/hr., Peggy Kedley-City Clerk to $1662.17/mo., Vicki Mohr-Library to $12.20/hr., and Lucille Horman-cleaning to $12.20/hr., effective 7-1-12. Ayes: All.
Kirk Steinke said the 1 T. dump truck is 10 years old and asked if the council would consider replacing it. Council told Kirk to get some bids for a new truck and present the information at the February meeting.
Council discussed other budget items related to City projects for FY13. City Clerk will prepare exact figures and the Mayor will check the budget before publication.
A Public Hearing for the FY13 budget was set for March 5, 2012, 5:30 PM.
