OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, SPECIAL MEETING, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21,
2009, 6:00 PM, CITY HALL
The
special meeting of the Lowden City Council was called to order by
Mayor Dan Hamdorf. Council members on roll call: Conrad, Olsen, Decker,
Tucker. Absent: Ryan. Visitors: Gene Hamdorf, Jan Olsen, Bob Tucker,
Laurie Millam.
Lowden Library Board presented information to the Council on the Library's
prior year activities. They also presented their FY10 budget request
of $39498 up from
$33198 in FY09. They anticipate revenues from the county and other state funds
to increase $2778 from the previous yr. Line item requests in the budget showed
a salary increase for the librarian from $11.00/hr. to $11.77/hr. and a health
insurance reimbursement of $4020/yr. for the librarian. Council discussed the
library's budget later in the meeting.
Jan Olsen, Lowden Park Board, told the council they are meeting in early February
and can present some Park budget figures to the City at that time.
City Clerk reported LEDCO requested a $5000 stipend for their group, as in the
past. The Lowden Fire Department and Lowden Rescue asked for their budgets to
remain the same as last year. The Fire budget is $28000. and Lowden Rescue is
$5925.
Council discussed salaries for maintenance men Gene Hamdorf and Tim Burmeister,
and City Clerk Peggy Kedley. After discussion, M/S Decker, Olsen to approve a
3% increase in wages to Gene, Tim, and Peggy and an increase in their insurance
reimbursement to $345/month.
Ayes: Olsen, Decker, Tucker. Nays: Conrad Some of the Council felt they misunderstood
the motion. M/S Decker, Tucker to rescind the previous motion. Ayes: All. Motioned
by Decker to approve a 3% increase in wages to Gene, Tim, and Peggy and an increase
in their insurance reimbursement to $345/month. Motion died for
lack of a second.
M/S Tucker, Decker to approve a 3% increase in wages to Gene, Tim, and Peggy
and an increase in their insurance reimbursement to $345/month. Ayes: Olsen,
Tucker, Decker. Nays: Conrad.
M/S Olsen, Decker to increase the Library's budget by $2500 to $35698. Ayes:
Olsen, Decker, Tucker. Nays: Conrad.
Council discussed having Jeff Goettsch do snow removal from sidewalks of residents
that have not abided by the City's ordinance regarding this. The City will bill
the homeowner accordingly and add the bill to property taxes if not paid.
Council set March 2, 2009, 7:00 PM, for the Public Hearing on the FY10 budget.
M/S Decker, Tucker to adjourn at 8:30 PM. Ayes: All.
Next regular meeting is February 2, 2009, 6:00 PM.
