LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL
MINUTES
PROCEEDINGS
OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, REGULAR MEETING, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2004,
7:00 PM
The regular
meeting of the Lowden City Council was called to order by Mayor Reuben
Wennt. Councilmembers present on roll call: Kroemer, Decker, Hamdorf,
Gottschalk,
Conrad. Visitors: Gene Hamdorf.
M/S Conrad, Hamdorf to approve the minutes of the 1/5/04 and 1/12/04 meetings.
Ayes: All.
M/S Kroemer, Hamdorf to approve payment of the bills as presented. Ayes: All.
Council discussed an excessive water bill in the amount of $508.96 for Michelle
Tredway’s house at 201 8th Street. Tredway was not present at the meeting
but asked for the issue to be placed on the agenda. Tredway said the toilet could
have been running when a realtor showed the house. Council said the full amount
is due and water will be turned off at the house if the bill becomes delinquent.
Councilman Conrad reported he had spoken to Kendall Miller, New Horizon FS, last
month regarding a new sewer line running through the FS property along Highway
30. This sewer line would hook up to Hunwardsen’s Car Wash. Farm Service
is worried about previous contamination throughout their property and does not
want to be liable for that. Gene Hamdorf suggested the Car Wash could hook onto
a mahole near the Fast Stop and the City would be responsible for the sewer line
from the manhole on. The Sewer Committee, Dan Hamdorf and Galen Conrad, will
speak to Sam Tika concerning a sewer line extension from Tika’s property.
Clerk will also check City ordinances regarding installation of private sewer
systems in city limits.
M/S Conrad, Gottschalk to increase building permit fees as follows: house-$100,
addition/garage-$25, shed/deck-$10, and sidewalks and curb/gutter-$10. Ayes:
All.
Gene Hamdorf reported Jay Weiland is buying a chipper to chip brush and tree
limbs, etc. He could also chip town brush and haul it away instead of the town
having to burn brush and haul away ashes. Council said they would need to know
the costs of Weiland doing this work for the town before they would consider
the offer.
M/S Kroemer, Hamdorf to approve the monthly financial report. Ayes: All.
M/S Conrad, Decker to approve a building permit for Kip/Sandy Esbaum-house
addition. Ayes: All.
Mayor Wenndt reported he will be meeting with the Cedar County Sheriff this week
to discuss possible police protection for Lowden from the County.
Mayor will speak to the County Assessor about assessment of taxes for installation
of curb and gutter for property owners in Lowden.
Mayor Wenndt will make a list of residents who habitually do not shovel snow
from their sidewalks and a letter will be sent to the offenders.
M/S Gottschalk, Hamdorf to adjourn at 7:55 PM. Ayes: All.
