OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, SPECIAL MEETING, THURSDAY, APRIL 14,

The special meeting of the Lowden City Council was called to order by Mayor Dan Hamdorf. Council members present on roll call: Ryan, Olsen, Hoffmeier. Absent: Conrad, Decker.
M/S Ryan, Hoffmeier to go into Closed Session at 6:01 PM per Section 21.5 (l)(i) of the Iowa Code to evaluate the professional competence of an individual whose “appointment, hiring, performance or discharge is being considered”. Ayes: Ryan, Olsen, Hoffmeier.
M/S Ryan, Hoffmeier to come out of Closed Session at 8:45 PM and return to the open meeting. Ayes: Ryan, Olsen, Hoffmeier.
M/S Ryan, Hoffmeier to hire Kirk Steinke for the Public Work Director position. Ayes: Ryan, Olsen, Hoffmeier.
Council would like Steinke to begin work on May 2 and work with Gene Hamdorf, current Public Works Director, until Gene retires the end of the year. Steinke will be paid $15.00/hr. with $.50/hr. increment raises when each of the four water and wastewater certification licenses are obtained within the first year. City will pay for the classes if Steinke remains with the City for two years of employment, Otherwise, he will be required to pay back the fee to the City. Steinke must also obtain a CDL license within 30 days of May 1. Works hours will be 7:00-4:00 PM and no City vehicle will be used for lunch hour. Water and wastewater checks will be done by Steinke every other weekend and he will be on call for emergency situations.
Benefits include: 1 week vacation after first year of service, 2 weeks vacation per year for 2-10 years of service, 3 weeks vacation per year for 10-20 years of service and 4 weeks per year after 20 years of service, $400/month towards health insurance, $50/per council meeting, and $25/month for reimbursement of a cell phone.
