MINUTES
PROCEEDINGS
OF LOWDEN CITY COUNCIL, REGULAR MEETING, MONDAY, MAY 5,
2009, 7:00 PM, CITY HALL
The regular meeting of the Lowden City Council was
called to order by Mayor Dan Hamdorf. Council persons present on roll
call: Conrad, Ryan, Olsen, Decker. Visitors: Pat Kroemer, Tim Malott,
Gene Hamdorf, Heather Hunter.
Three persons submitted their names to City Hall that are interested in the council
seat vacated by Judy Tucker: Heather Hunter, Austin Lange, and Randy Millam.
Council asked Heather Hunter, who was present at the meeting, why she was interested
in serving on the council. She said she has lived in Lowden for 9 yrs. and loves
the town and would like to work to improve the town. Councilman Conrad thought
the person who had the most votes in the last election behind the person elected,
should be the one appointed.
M/s Olsen, Decker to appoint Heather Hunter to the open council seat. Ayes: Ryan,
Olsen, Decker. Nays: Conrad.
Hunter then took the Oath of Office from the City Clerk.
M/S Ryan, Olsen to seat Heather Hunter as a new council member. Ayes: Conrad,
Ryan, Olsen, Decker.
M/S Decker, Ryan to approve the minutes of the 4/6/09 meeting. Ayes: All.
M/S Conrad, Olsen to approve payment of the bills as presented. Ayes: All.
Tim Malott, Cedar County EMA/911 Coordinator, was present to inform the City
Council of his duties and how he can assist towns with emergencies.
Gene Hamdorf will check to verify if a diseased tree near the curb at 101 Roosevelt
Avenue is the City's responsibility for removal or the homeowner's. An estimate
from Turkle Tree Svc. for its removal is $850 and $80 for the stump. The issue
will be placed on the June meeting agenda.
M/S Ryan, Olsen to approve the monthly financial report. Ayes: All.
M/S Conrad, Ryan to approve a liquor license for the 3-30 Club. Ayes: All.
M/S Conrad, Ryan to approve the following building permits: shed-Don Brockmeyer,
shed-Nick Wichtoski, and deck-Marilyn Lafrenz, pending Gene's approval the structures
are the correct distance from property lines. Ayes: All.
An estimate from MSI for summer street work on Roosevelt Avenue, 5th St. Place,
and Grant Avenue is $35,540. Street Committee will also determine what other
areas need to be repaired this summer.
City Council denied Gene Hamdorf's request for the City to pay $114 for new prescription
safety glasses.
Gene Hamdorf informed the council they would do street sweeping this month and
also flush water hydrants.
Chuck Ryan said there have been complaints about junk vehicles in Lowden. He
will give a list to the City Clerk so nuisance abatement letter can be sent to
the owners.
Lisa Decker, told the council that relatives of Walter Ibsen have indicated to
her they do not want the City Hall Park planter removed that was donated by Ibsen's
family. Council told her the name plaque would be placed on the new planter.
M/S Decker, Hunter to adjourn at 8:20 PM. Ayes: All.
Next regular meeting is June 1, 2009, 7:00 PM.
